Last night the whole fifth year went on a torchlight walk through Valmeinier. The idea was to see the village at night, look at the stars (if there were any) and generally enjoy a healthy walk in the evening snow. The photos say it all - we all had a great time, especially as there was hot chocolate on the hotel balcony ready for us when we got back (and mulled wine for the adults).
This morning we all woke up to a wonderful surprise - fresh snow had fallen during the night (and was still falling) and the whole place looked different. So it was a perfect coincidence that this morning was the visit to the goat farm. We walked down the ski track to begin with and then branched off into fresh snow, following a track through the woods. We must have walked about 3 kilometres. All the children were warmly dressed in their snow gear because it was still snowing hard. Mrs Deelen came with us to the farm and, like the children, was enchanted to see baby goats leaping around and letting the children touch and stroke them. The farmer gave us a very interesting talk about his goats, explaining the whole process of caring for them, milking them and finally making the milk into cheese. The cheese tasting was a very welcome part of the visit. We've been given order forms so the children can buy some of the cheese if they want to, and this will be delivered on Thursday so it can be loaded into the lorry with the rest of the luggage.
All the children have now gone skiing and as it's stopped snowing, should have an excellent time.
More news tomorrow - chocolate fountains and luge on the lower ski slopes should figure in the plans for the day.

Hi C*******a!
As you know, Dad and I went to the Salon de Voitures today. We were there quite a long time and after a while I got a bit hungry. Luckily, I saw a stand with a glass bowl of sweets in it - those ones that look like pebbles dusted with lots of white icing sugar. Yum! So, as we walked past I popped one into my mouth. Guess what? It wasn't a sweet at all, it was a stone and that wasn't icing sugar, it was CHALK! YUCK! Fortunately, there was some water nearby and a bowl of apples that really were apples so I had one of those instead. The moral of this story is that sometimes things are not quite what they seem!
I don't want to ruin my reputation as a super-cool mum, so I won't sign my name!
Lots of love from your mega-cool, super-chic mum. M. xx
Hello Sarah and friends

A letter for Sarah is on its way -we hope get it soon.
All the best

Hi Olivia looks like you lot are having a ball with night walks and cold porridge! Daniela says you have been away too long and have to come back now!
Sean is delighted to see you wear his ski-suit and even he is admitting to missing you now! He worked out class de neige takes as long as class de mer and classe verte added up, you know Sean expressing his feelings in statistics! Papa and I worked out it seems an eternity that we have not seen you! Anyway, don't mind our whingeing and continue to have a (snow)ball! The cheese sounds yummy!
Lots of love, kusjes, papa en mama
Dear Seb
By the time you get back home, the front room will look different as the chaise longue arrived last night and there'll be a new big thing in the dining room too - but otherwise, the house feels very quiet without you. Hugo has had one nightmare, this one was two mean monsters who scratched his nose. Luckily it was at 6am so we were beginning to get up anyway. We miss you lots and hope you have had two letters - there's a third on its way, but it might miss you.
Lots of love
Mummy Daddy and Hugoxxx

Dear Anna,
Thank you very much for your lovely letter which arrived today. If we'd realised our letters would arrive so quickly we'd have sent you some more!
Enjoy your last full day in Valmeinier... we are all looking forward to seeing you again on Friday night. David keeps looking for you, pointing to where you should be sitting at dinner and saying 'Anna, Anna!' And Ben has become very quiet at breakfast-time - he hasn't got anyone to natter with while you're away!
Lots of love from Mummy and Daddy XXXX
